Welcome to the Human and Animal Well-being Academy

CARE’s Circle of Learning and Leadership is proud to host the Human and Animal Well-being [HAW] Academy.  The HAW Academy is the pathway to all REDI-related (Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) coursework, impactfully informed by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) speaking from their lived experiences.

The CLL is also home to an ecosystem of continuous learning and education centered on Racial Equity, Community Wisdom, and Access to Preventive Care. Our goal is to bridge the information gap between traditional Animal Welfare and marginalized communities through prioritizing Human and Animal Well-Being.

“We decided to focus on Racial Equity because, without it, Social Justice and Inclusion are Delusions.”

– James Evans, CARE CEO

REDI = Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

REDI works outside the traditional framework of DE&I. Often DE&I is performative, done to look as though diversity is the goal. For this reason, DE&I initiatives seldom last long, rarely transfer power to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color [BIPOC], or create systemic and equitable shifts within organizations.

Thanks to Maddie’s Fund and Petsmart Charities, CARE is able to offer coursework that helps students look critically at our current and historical failures as it pertains to Racial Equity. CARE seeks to put committed organizations and individuals on a path to greater truth and understanding, and eventually to Action.

Note: Completion of the course should take less than four hours. You do not need to complete the course in one sitting. After the course, you must pass a quiz with a score of 85% or better to receive certification. If you do not pass the first quiz, you will have an opportunity to take a second quiz.

Choose the course that is right for you

By enrolling, you commit to advocating for social justice and supporting BIPOC communities. What you do after the course will make the real difference.
